Pediatric neurosurgeon Theodore Spinks, MD warns that if an athlete stays in the game after a concussion, the risk of developing a second and more serious concussion is high. “A minor blow, or a trip, or a fall, or even a cut can reinjure you, and that makes your symptoms worse and adds to the length of time of recovery,” Dr. Spinks says.
