Legislative Staff Learn About Public Health and Economy

Dozens of legislative staffers attended the Texas Public Health Coalition’s first University of Health forum, which focused on the economic value local public health infrastructure provides to communities in Texas. Eduardo Sanchez, MD, family physician and chief medical officer at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas, gave a presentation, “A Healthy Texas is a Wealthy Texas.” Future University of Health forums will focus on immunizations, obesity, and cancer and tobacco. TMA founded the Texas Public Health Coalition, a group of more than 20 organizations dedicated to advancing core public health principles at the state and community levels.

We also addressed how to prevent breast cancer, which allowed visitors to begin preventing being diagnosed with the disease and develop positive habits.
