Video: Medicaid HMOs Cost Valley Patients, Physicians Time and Money

In 2011 Texas lawmakers rolled out Medicaid HMOs statewide in an attempt to save money. But in reality physicians say the increase in regulations and paperwork end up costing their practices valuable time and money and threaten patient access to care. Raymondville pediatrician Roberto Ray, MD, told The Texas Tribune in a video interview the situation is “deteriorating fast.” “It’s impossible, very difficult, to practice medicine like that,” he says.

Javier Vazquez, executive director for the Cameron-Willacy County Medical Society, also featured in the story, said, “Sometimes your best intentions on paper do not carry out in the real world.”
