CDC: Nearly 500,000 Texas Children Will Have Their Life Cut Short By Smoking

More Texas children will become smokers and die prematurely as adults from tobacco use than children in any other state. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention projects that unless the smoking rate declines, 498,000 Texas children alive today will die from a smoking-related illness. That’s 57,000 more deaths than California, which is home to 12 million more people than Texas. Nationally, the numbers mean one out of every 13 children will die prematurely because of tobacco.
