Some Children’s “Weight Fate” Determined by Kindergarten

A study by the New England Journal of Medicine found that one-third of overweight kindergarteners become obese by the time they reach the eighth grade, reports The New York Times. These overweight 5- and 6-year-olds are four to five times more likely to be obese by the ages of 13 and 14 than their thinner classmates. Child health experts say earlier intervention efforts and focusing on children with the highest risk for obesity could help reduce this trend.
