The Global Spread of Vaccine-Preventable Diseases

Map: Vaccine-Preventable Outbreaks
To illustrate how widespread vaccine-preventable diseases have become across the globe, the Council on Foreign Relations created an interactive map showing the world’s disease outbreaks. As you may suspect, in areas like sub-Saharan Africa where routine health care and preventive care is scarce, deadly diseases number in the thousands and tens of thousands. But these countries do not corner the market on vaccine-preventable illness. In the U.S. and several European nations, diseases like the measles, mumps, and whooping cough have once-again gained a foothold.

To view the graphic, click on "Map" in the menu on the left and use your mouse to drag the map to different parts of the world.
