Indoor Tanning: Still a Bad Idea

Summer has arrived and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is warning people that indoor tanning is dangerous. Skin cancer, a known side-effect of tanning (be it indoor or outdoor), is the most common cancer in the United States, says CDC. Melanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer, is the second most common cancer in women aged 20-29 and the leading cause of cancer death in women between 25 to 30 years old.

Many myths surround indoor tanning, and in its The Burning Truth campaign, CDC busts three of the most popular. Says CDC: There’s no such thing as a safe “base” tan (the idea that a tan protects the body against sunburn), controlled tanning is not safe tanning, and tanned skin is damaged skin that can increase one’s risk for cancer.
